A former CIA ‘remote viewer’ has come forward with claims he believes point to the existence of life on Mars.
Joe McMoneagle, once nicknamed the CIA’s Remote Viewer No. 1, recently shared details about his time working with the agency during its early exploration of psychic phenomena in the 1970s.
Teaming up with the Stanford Research Institute—now SRI International—the CIA delved into the world of ‘remote viewing,’ a controversial ability said to let individuals mentally perceive or influence distant people, places, or events without any direct contact.

The project was highly classified, but McMoneagle has now opened up in an interview on the American Alchemy podcast, where he recalled being given a set of coordinates to “see” using only his mind.
McMoneagle, a former US Army Chief Warrant Officer, described witnessing a massive, pyramid-shaped structure filled with what he called “monster rooms.”
He recalled seeing towering figures and a fierce storm in the background, speculating that the beings were using the pyramids for protection.
He explained: “I began to visualize humans trapped somewhere as the environment was going bad […] It was clear these people were dying for some reason, but they were definitely human […] They were twice as tall as we are.”

Although he witnessed quite a bit, McMoneagle confessed during the podcast that he was frustrated upon discovering his target was Mars—especially since he had initially believed he was remote viewing somewhere on Earth.
When he finally looked at the card with the coordinates, it read: “Mars. One million BC.”
“I really dislike targets where I can’t verify the ground truth,” he admitted. “Because then I can’t tell if what I’m seeing is real or just something my mind is creating.”
“I can’t sit there and claim it’s completely accurate.”
Based on his observations, the agent believed Mars lost its atmosphere when something “moved through our solar system,” wiping out its population.
Later, when McMoneagle requested updated images of the locations he had remotely viewed, he claimed those photos confirmed what he had visualized. In them, he said, a pyramid-like structure appeared along the rim of a massive impact crater.
Believing the structure to be artificially built, he argued: “If it had existed beforehand, the blast would have destroyed it.”
