AITA for saying my daughter’s friend can’t come back to our house until I’ve spoken to her parents?

A mother says that her 12-year-old daughter, CC, has a 13-year-old friend named Katie who comes over without warning and stays longer than they had planned. Katie comes over at odd times, breaks the rules by staying past curfew, brings laundry for their helper to wash, and might even be taking things from the house. The biggest problem, though, is that the mother has never met or talked to Katie’s parents, even though Katie comes over all the time, even for whole weekends.

When the mom got back from a short trip, she found out that Katie had been living with them since Friday and wouldn’t leave even after being told that there were no sleepovers on school nights. Katie said her older brother was in charge because her parents were “out of town.” The mother realized how dangerous and risky that moment was for her. She told her daughter that Katie can’t come over again until she talks to Katie’s parents in person. Her husband thinks she’s being nosy, but she says it’s her duty to know whose child is in her house and to make sure the parents know and are okay with it.
