You have every right to be upset. It’s annoying to see someone benefit from your hard work, especially since you’ve always done the right thing in the past. Still, it might be better to let HR or payroll take care of it instead of emailing your coworker directly. These kinds of mistakes are administrative, and pointing them out in person could make things awkward or tense at work.
Wanting accountability doesn’t make you an A-hole, but it’s better and cleaner to go through official channels. That way, you stay professional, the mistake gets fixed, and your coworker can’t say you went too far or made things weird.
