If you’ve seen Euphoria, you’re aware it delves into heavy topics like substance abuse and intimacy, making it an awkward watch alongside family.
But what if your daughter is one of the main actors?
That’s exactly the dilemma Sydney Sweeney’s family faced.
Sweeney portrays a character with multiple intimate scenes in the popular HBO series. While she’s now making waves in Hollywood, her role in Euphoria brought its own set of hurdles.
She even had to push harder to secure roles that contrasted with how audiences perceived her from the show.

In an interview with Variety, Sweeney shared: “The roles I truly want, the ones that challenge me, are often the hardest to land—like Reality.”
“I had to audition just like everyone else. I recorded my own tape and sent it in.”
She also revealed she faced the same hurdles while trying out for White Lotus.
“It was no different with White Lotus. Because of my work in Euphoria, they didn’t see me as the right fit. So, I had to audition like anyone else, submit my tape, and go through callbacks.
“I might get offered roles similar to those I’ve done before, but the ones that challenge expectations—the ones that truly surprise people—are the ones I usually have to fight for.”
Even though she had to persuade casting directors to see beyond her HBO role, Sweeney’s bold scenes in Euphoria made it uncomfortable for some family members to watch.
During an interview on Sunday Today With Willie Geist, Sweeney opened up about her family’s reaction to her character.
While her mom had a better understanding of the storyline, some relatives—including her dad—were completely taken aback.

“My mom visited me on set, so she was familiar with the storyline, and we talked about it a lot — my dad, on the other hand, had no clue,” she admitted. “Yeah, I didn’t give him any warning. At all.”
Because of that, he ended up watching the show with other family members — completely unprepared for what was coming.
“I mean, how do you even bring that up in a conversation?” she joked. “Plus, when I talk to my dad, it’s rarely about work.
“Our talks are more like typical father-daughter chats. He made the choice to watch it—without telling me—alongside his parents.”
As you might guess, not everyone stayed to watch the entire show.
“My dad and grandpa shut it off and left,” Sweeney admitted.
“But my grandma is one of my biggest supporters. She’s a huge fan. In fact, I usually take her around the world to my various sets and even get her in as an extra.”
Sometimes, you just can’t please everyone!
