Royal Rift Deepens as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Spark Controversy with Children’s Name Changes

There are moments when someone in the public spotlight makes a decision that isn’t widely embraced. It’s a choice they still make, but it comes with its share of criticism along the way.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle find themselves in that very situation now, having changed the names of both of their children. Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor and Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, who live with their parents in the United States, are at the center of this decision.

Now, the couple has made the decision to change their children’s names, a choice that has sparked some debate. This follows a series of other controversial moves they’ve made as some of the most talked-about members of the royal family.

It all began when the Duke and Duchess stepped down from their roles as senior royals in 2020, breaking with a tradition that had been in place for centuries. They relocated to California, where they are raising their two children.

Their first child, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, was born on May 6, 2019, at the Portland Hospital in London. At the time of his birth, he was seventh in line to the throne.

As a royal family member, Archie had privileges that many others did not. For instance, just two days after his birth, he had the chance to meet his grandmother, the late Queen Elizabeth II, at a public event.

Currently, he leads a fairly ordinary life with his parents in Montecito, California.

Their daughter, Lilibet, arrived on June 4, 2021, in the United States. Since her birth, she has remained largely out of the public eye. Her name was chosen to honor Queen Elizabeth, who was affectionately called Lilibet during her childhood.

It has now been confirmed that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have changed the names of their children, Archie and Lilibet. While not everyone agrees with the decision, it aligns with the couple’s broader efforts to rebrand their family.

One critic shared, “Instead of rebranding, I would like to see them actually accomplish something. It’s all spin, and rather sad.”

Another remarked, “This pair will do anything to stay in the limelight. Complete hypocrites. For a couple who wanted to step away from the media, they sure do a great job of staying in it.”

However, there are also those who support the change. One commenter said, “What’s in a name? What’s in a title if it only brings misery into your life? They chose to live their lives away from all the toxicity. That is their right. Wishing Harry and his family all the happiness in the world!!! God bless.”

Many others echoed similar thoughts.

Following the coronation of King Charles III, reports suggest that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s children are now being referred to as Archie and Lilibet Sussex, rather than Mountbatten-Windsor.

This move also coincided with the rebranding of the family’s website to Sussex.com.

Some sources suggest that the Duke and Duchess are making this change to foster unity within their family. An insider shared, “It symbolizes their coming together, and it’s a moment they’re truly proud of.”
