Prince Philip’s Secret Nickname for Meghan Markle Unveiled

A royal expert revealed that the late Prince Philip had a rather sharp nickname for the Duchess of Sussex, which was far from flattering.

The name reportedly drew comparisons between Meghan Markle and Wallis Simpson, the notorious spouse of former King Edward VIII, as both women had been divorced before marrying into the royal family.

Allegedly, Prince Philip used a term for Meghan that hinted at this link.

Wallis Simpson and King Edward VIII

Wallis Simpson, an American divorcée who went on to become the Duchess of Windsor, remains one of the most controversial figures in royal history. Her marriage to King Edward VIII prompted him to abdicate the throne in December 1936, less than a year after becoming monarch.

As reported by the Royal Observer, at the time, royals were prohibited from marrying divorced individuals, a rule that remained in place until 2002, just three years before the then-Prince Charles married Camilla.

After King Edward’s marriage to Wallis Simpson, they were not permitted to return to Britain without the consent of his brother, the newly crowned King George VI, due to fears that their return would stir public unrest, according to Vogue.

During their time in exile, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor often made headlines, with one of the most shocking events taking place in 1937. The couple visited Nazi Germany, where they were photographed giving the infamous Nazi salute while meeting Adolf Hitler.

Prince Philip’s Surprising Nickname Revealed

In an interview with GB News, royal biographer Ingrid Seward disclosed Prince Philip’s view, stating that he noticed many resemblances between Meghan Markle and Wallis Simpson. This led him to come up with a discreet nickname for the Duchess of Sussex.

Seward explained that Prince Philip, known for his sharp judgment of character, couldn’t ignore the parallels between Meghan and Prince Harry, and Edward and Mrs. Simpson.

Seward mentioned, “I think that Prince Philip was very canny about people and he didn’t always see bad in people, he often tried to see the good in them,”

She added, “He just could not get away from the similarities between Meghan and Harry and Edward and Ms Simpson, which his why he used to call her the Duchess of Windsor. Not to her face though, he used to call her DOW,”

In her book My Mother and I, Seward explores Prince Philip’s concerns about Meghan, describing him as “wary” of the former Suits actress and her potential influence on the royal family.

While Prince Philip saw Meghan as a possible source of disruption, Queen Elizabeth II held “high hopes” for her, indicating differing perspectives within the royal family on Meghan’s role and impact.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Step Down from Royal Spot Light

Since stepping down from their royal duties in 2020 and relocating to California, Meghan and Harry have maintained a low profile in the royal sphere.

Harry is set to visit the UK for the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games, with a service scheduled at St. Paul’s Cathedral on May 8, according to the Daily Express. Meghan, however, is expected to stay in the United States, citing safety concerns and a desire to avoid stirring controversy.

Although Meghan has made occasional trips to the UK for significant events, such as Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in 2022, she chose not to attend others, including King Charles III’s coronation, which Harry attended solo last year.

Amid constant scrutiny and public interest in her connection with the royal family, Meghan has made it clear that her safety and peace of mind come first.
