New Homeowner Unpacks and Finds Eerie Note from Former Owner — The Warning Inside Sends Shivers Down Their Spine

A homeowner recently shared a chilling note they found left behind by the previous owner of their newly purchased house.

It’s not unusual for the previous homeowner to leave behind a small gesture of goodwill, like a glass of wine or a box of chocolates, to welcome the new residents. However, finding a terrifying note instead of a bottle of wine is certainly not the kind of surprise anyone would expect when moving into a new home.

“Found this note taped under a panel in this storage cabinet, is the previous owner just messing with me?” the anonymous Reddit user wrote in a now-viral post.

On one side of the note, it reads, “Don’t look under the floor,” and the other side contains a mysterious 14-digit code.

The Reddit user shared a photo of the note on the popular platform, hoping for some potential explanations, and the new homeowner received no shortage of them.

“14 digits… coordinates? Safe deposit box? Hidden safe code? Alphabetical order to each number?” one Redditor suggested.

Meanwhile, another user offered their own in-depth theory: “This is interesting.

“Back in the ’90s, Toronto Library card numbers started with 290 and were 14 digits long, just like your number. They’ve since changed their format.”

The comment continued, “I know this because I have an uncanny ability to remember long sequences of numbers. Pi is 3.14159265358979.

“My username actually comes from the prefix of my old Toronto Public Library card. Notice it also begins with 290.”

“I think there are old library books under the cabinet, linked to a library card from the ’90s Toronto Public Library system, with a note attached listing them.”

A third person commented: “From experience, someone’s just trolling.”

“I used to work in an office with about 8 people (myself included), but only 7 worked in the field and came in every other week. I used to leave little notes like this all around just for fun. I was young and naïve back then.”

And a fourth person wrote: “Trolling. It’s probably just funny to them to watch you rip up the floor.”

“Don’t stress over it. If it really bothers you, you can tap on the floor. If any spot sounds different from the rest, or where the joists are, then you can waste your time investigating.”
