In the sunny town of Lompoc, California, a nine-year-old girl named Melody Buzzard has gone missing, and people all over the country are worried and looking for her.

Melody, who has bright brown eyes and a happy smile, has not been seen since early October 2025. Her family is very scared and has many questions.

It all started when her school noticed she was not coming to class or talking to anyone. On October 14, 2025, the school called for help, and now even the FBI is searching for her.

Her mother, Ashlee Buzzard, is heartbroken, and their quiet life has turned into a sad mystery.

When deputies knocked on the family’s door on Mars Avenue, Ashlee was home, but Melody was nowhere in sight.

Ashlee offered no clear explanation; her silence fueling fears that something terrible had happened to the little girl who loved drawing and dreaming big.

Heartbreakingly, Melody’s relatives say Ashlee cut them off years ago, right after Melody’s father died, erasing family ties and leaving aunts and grandparents in the dark.

Lori Miranda, Ashlee’s mother, learned of the vanishing only when police called her for help. “I’m horrified for my little niece,” she shared, her voice cracking with pain. “I haven’t seen her in two years. What’s she gone through?”

New clues paint a picture of secrecy and a desperate road trip. A camera video from October 7 shows Melody at a car rental place in Santa Barbara County. She was wearing a hoodie and what looked like a wig, maybe to hide her face.

Police think her mom, Ashlee, rented a white car and drove all the way to Nebraska, stopping in Kansas, and then came back alone on October 10.

The FBI is now in charge of finding Melody. They say the most important time to look at is those three days. They are asking people to share any camera videos or sightings that might help.

The sheriff said that Melody might be with someone who doesn’t know she is missing.

Ashlee is not helping the police and has refused to talk, which is making it hard for investigators to figure out where the car went and what really happened.

This is more than just a missing child case—it’s a family ripped apart and a community demanding answers.

Melody’s aunt, Bridgett Truitt, begs: “We never gave up loving her or praying for her. Throughout the wet and windy weekend, volunteers have been searching parks and highways for Melody as posters of her with her 2023 photo, her last known image, appeal to the Central Coast to find one of their own.

The heartache lands with a thud: an introverted girl, maybe fearful and alone, her laughter stifled amid secrets.

Authorities warn against vigilante searches that could tamper with evidence, call tips to (805) 681-4150 or anonymously at (805) 681-4171. Every second counts in this race against the unknown; Melody’s out there, waiting for someone to bring her home.
