The US dance troupe, The Emerald Belles, has been around for nearly 30 years, proudly calling themselves a “super-sized dance team from Southlake, Texas, with a long-standing tradition of excellence.” Over the years, they’ve earned numerous awards and participated in many competitions, including the 2017 Crowd Pleasers Dance Area Competition, where they triumphed with an incredibly creative—and at times, illusionary—routine titled ‘High Kick.’ As the name suggests, the routine centered around the technical skill of the ‘high kick’ movement.
Performing to the Eurythmics’ ‘Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This),’ the dance troupe’s 80 members start by improvising their own unique movements. This makes it even more striking when their motions suddenly align, with the girls converging in the center to execute their captivating high kicks. As the routine unfolds, the group breaks into smaller teams, crafting optical illusions with their movements, at times making the floor appear to be shifting.
From the constant cheers erupting from the audience as the young women perform, it’s clear that the Emerald Belles’ routine is an instant crowd favorite. So, it’s no surprise that their performance secured them the victory. This captivating display only added to their already remarkable legacy. These talented dancers have gained fame across America, having performed on cruise ships, at Walt Disney World, and even on Kelly Clarkson’s television show.

They even showcased their talent on America’s Got Talent, entering season 14 with a high-kick-themed routine. Although the dance group, all aged 14 to 18 at the time, was eliminated in the quarterfinals, their audition gave audiences another opportunity to marvel at their captivating kicks and skill in creating optical illusions through dance. “You were cohesive and collectively beautiful,” praised judge Julianne Hough, clearly charmed by the group.
While the Emerald Belles boldly state that they have a “long-standing tradition of excellence,” they certainly aren’t exaggerating.
