Fans Urge Katy Perry to Retire After Her First Concert Since Returning from Space

There are moments when celebrities are widely celebrated for their achievements — but that hasn’t been the case lately for Katy Perry.

The pop star recently made headlines for her brief venture into space, but not everyone was impressed. Critics were quick to dismiss her 11-minute suborbital flight, claiming it didn’t amount to much in terms of real accomplishment.

Now back on solid ground, the 40-year-old singer is making waves again — but fans haven’t exactly been thrilled. Her return from orbit, flashy metallic bodysuit, and cosmic-inspired dance moves have drawn more eye-rolls than applause.

On April 23, Katy Perry launched the fifth concert tour of her career — the Lifetimes Tour. Her stage moves quickly went viral, though not for the reasons she may have hoped. Instead of praise, the reaction was filled with fans urging her to consider retirement.

Just days earlier, Perry had taken part in a Blue Origin mission alongside an all-female crew, spending a quick 11 minutes on a suborbital flight before returning to Earth. During her concert, she gave a nod to the mission while leaning heavily into a futuristic theme.

Perry clearly knew her space adventure had drawn criticism. She appeared to channel that backlash into her performance — with some viewers even questioning if she was “trying to be bad on purpose.”

The response online was swift and brutal. While some urged her to retire with dignity, others expressed secondhand embarrassment. One blunt comment read: “This is the worst choreography I have ever seen in my life.”

Curiously, even before she boarded the Blue Origin flight, some were already urging her to step away from the spotlight. The turnout for ticket purchases was underwhelming, to put it mildly.

Insiders and members involved in the tour had voiced their doubts early on. Behind the scenes, there were talks about backup plans in case crowd turnout failed to meet projections.

When tickets were released in January, it quickly became apparent that demand was lagging across several states. For instance, by February, about 70% of the seats for the May 13 concert in Minneapolis were still unclaimed.

People familiar with Katy Perry revealed she regretted ‘drawing so much attention’ during and following the Blue Origin launch. She assumed it would help promote her tour, but it appears that didn’t work out as planned.

While performing, she paused briefly to snap a selfie with two men dressed in blue NASA flight suits.

Reflecting on her space journey, she shared, “It won’t be about me. It will be about this incredible planet. I believe from that view, we’ll all think, ‘Wow, we need to protect our mother.’”

While aboard the New Shepard rocket, she sang “What a Wonderful World.” Upon landing, she knelt and kissed the Earth. The internet, however, wasn’t exactly gentle—memes mocking the moment spread quickly.

Despite her waning fame, she remains a legendary figure in music. Maybe stepping away from the spotlight wouldn’t be such a bad move after all.
