Experts Reveal What the Devil and Hell Might Really Look Like — and Whether They Actually Exist

“Is Satan the Red-Skinned, Horned Demon We See on Screens, or Something Entirely Different?”

A theologian is challenging everything we think we “know” about the Devil and Hell, proposing that sinners might not suffer eternal flames.

Jared Brock has dedicated years to researching the concept of the afterlife in religious teachings. As the author of A Devil Named Lucifer, he has carefully examined biblical scriptures, leading him to an interpretation that differs from traditional beliefs.

He argues that a widespread misconception about Hell is the belief that the Devil spews fire at the souls entering his domain, but the Book of Revelation, the final text of the New Testament, clearly contradicts this idea.

In Revelation 12:15, the passage states: “The serpent poured water like a river from his mouth after the woman, to carry her away with a flood.”

Although Hell is frequently mentioned in sacred texts, the Bible actually references up to six distinct locations that might represent the ‘lower realm’ of the afterlife.

Many people who believe in the afterlife hold that those who fail to repent their sins will be cast out of Heaven and condemned to Hell for all eternity. However, Brock isn’t entirely convinced that this interpretation is accurate, though he admits he can’t be certain.

He also explored the origins of Hell, questioning whether it exists as a physical place or merely as a destination for sinners’ souls.

Speaking with Mail Online, he stated: “Is it a tangible location? Is it purely spiritual? Is it eternal? Or is it temporary? The truth is, we simply don’t have definitive answers.”

That brings us to Satan—the red-skinned, horned figure often shown wielding a pitchfork, sporting a goatee, and sometimes even hooves. According to Brock, this portrayal is entirely inaccurate and not supported by scripture.

He told the publication, “I think society became fixated on the idea of a tiny red devil constantly whispering in your ear.”

In reality, he firmly believes that Satan is not a physical entity like Jesus but a spiritual force capable of manifesting in appealing forms to lure people into sin.

Brock clarified, “The Bible uses two words for the devil—one meaning ‘accuser’ and the other ‘adversary.’ Nowhere does it suggest that the devil is everywhere at once. Unlike God, he is not omnipresent.”

Christian teachings also convey that Lucifer was cast out of Heaven and condemned to Hell along with his followers.

Revelation 12:7-9 states: “And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought back, but they could not win, and there was no longer a place for them in heaven.”

“So the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the entire world; he was cast out to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.”
