If you’re someone who genuinely enjoys stretching their brain with optical tricks and visual puzzles, I’ve got to give you credit.
Personally, I’m awful at them. Back when I turned six, my grandma gifted me a ‘boost your brainpower’ book. It sat untouched on my shelf until I was nearly 16. Even then, most of the riddles inside left me completely baffled.
Still, it’s clear that puzzles and illusions have carved out a huge fanbase online. Across the globe, people love putting their observation skills to the test, trying to spot things hiding in plain sight.
With that said, I figured now’s the perfect time to share one I randomly came across. Believe me, it had me totally stumped score-wise—though I’m the first to admit my eyesight isn’t exactly eagle-level. In the puzzle below, your mission is to count how many faces you can find in the “National Leaders Tree.”
No one really knows where this image first appeared, but it’s been making waves online as folks compete to see who can identify the most faces.
Naturally, the two large faces at the tree’s base are easy to catch, but things get tricky once you start hunting for the others.
Allegedly, the total number you spot could reveal something interesting about your memory.

2 to 4 faces
As mentioned earlier, the two faces at the base of the tree are obvious to everyone. But if you’re only able to find one or two more beyond those, it might be a subtle sign of memory difficulties.
5 to 6 faces
Spotted more than four faces? Great job—keep going. But if you’re only seeing five or six, it might suggest early signs of cognitive decline or memory-related challenges.
7 to 8 faces
Your memory is in a decent place—nothing to worry about, but there’s definitely room for improvement. Keep sharpening your mind by working through puzzles like this on.
More than 9 faces
Well done! If you managed to find nine or more, it’s a strong sign that your memory and facial recognition abilities are truly impressive.
