A couple has been dealing with an ongoing issue involving their neighbor’s adult son, who is autistic. Although he’s generally friendly and accompanied by a support worker, he frequently enters their yard uninvited. Over time, he has taken several tools such as snow shovels, rakes, and garden supplies, and even moved branches and other items around the property. He’s also taken bottles meant for recycling and once opened their door to let their dog inside because he dislikes the dog.
Despite multiple calm conversations with the neighbors and visible signs stating he shouldn’t enter or take things, the behavior has continued. The couple says they’ve tried to handle the matter respectfully, understanding his condition, but admit to feeling increasingly frustrated. After another talk with the boy’s mother—who seemed genuinely upset—they agreed to keep monitoring the situation, hoping to avoid escalation while maintaining boundaries and safety for their own young children.
AITAH because I’m frustrated our neighbors Autistic adult son steals our bottles and yard supplies…
