
You don’t owe them free emotional labor or schooling after they’ve told you you were underpaid. The “market changed” excuse only shows they could have paid you more but didn’t, until they were forced to find someone else anyway. It’s a slap in the face to expect you will cheerfully train this person, whom they’re rewarding more for doing your job.
You already are giving appropriate notice and tying up your own work — which is all professionalism asks. You train your replacement as a favor — not because it’s expected of you. If your boss wanted a smooth handoff, he should’ve thought of that before underpaying and losing you.
