AITA for refusing to bake cupcakes for my friend’s kid’s birthday after she said my baking was store-level at best?

You are not the A.

You did Mara a huge favor by making her 60 cupcakes for $40. That’s almost like giving her a job. She should have gone to a professional and paid professional rates if she wanted “professional-level” cupcakes. It was rude and demeaning to joke about your baking skills in front of friends. She also thought you would still do the work afterward, which shows she took you for granted.

It wasn’t petty to say no after that; it was setting a limit. She learned that you can’t insult someone’s work and then expect them to do it for free. You didn’t do anything to make her embarrassed.
