As a 25-year-old man, you don’t have to go trick-or-treating. As an adult, especially if you don’t have kids, it’s normal to feel weird about going door-to-door for candy. You aren’t judging your girlfriend for wanting to have fun; in fact, you even suggested another Halloween activity that lets you both dress up and have fun. That shows you’re willing to work things out instead of just shutting her down.
It’s nice that your girlfriend is excited, but it’s not fair for her to expect you to ignore your own comfort when something is clearly making you feel awkward. It makes sense that you’re hesitant in a city like New York, where people can be careful or get things wrong. It’s okay to say that Halloween should be fun and not stressful. You’re not a buzzkill; you’re being reasonable.
AITA for not wanting to take my 20 yr old GF trick or treating as a 25 yr old man
