AITA for “hogging” my foster sister

A 26-year-old woman said that her parents began taking care of Ellie, a 7-year-old girl who has health problems and has trouble meeting new people. The woman changed her schedule so she could take care of Ellie when her mom isn’t home because her mom works part-time. Ellie has naturally grown attached to her and gets especially clingy when she’s not feeling well.

Ellie’s stomach hurt most of the time on a recent family vacation, so the woman spent the trip comforting her and watching movies with her. Stacey, Ellie’s brother’s girlfriend, kept trying to get involved by offering to take Ellie to the park, the pool, or do her hair, but Ellie didn’t want to. Stacey told the woman that Ellie only wanted her or her mom, and the woman said that Ellie was “hogging” her. Later, Stacey’s mom told her to leave Ellie alone, and they agreed that she shouldn’t be around Ellie for now. The woman feels bad, but she isn’t the bad person; she was protecting the comfort and boundaries of a sick, scared child.
