Not the A-hole.
Your parents went too far. That money was a gift from your grandmother to celebrate your success, not a way for them to pay you back for raising you or covering your costs. Not only is it rude that your father took it without asking, but it’s also dishonest that he said he “already spent enough on you.” You have every reason to feel betrayed.
Sadly, in a lot of Asian families, the line between “family money” and “individual money” can get blurry, especially when parents expect their children to always do what they say. But that doesn’t make it okay. It’s manipulative for your parents to use your graduation gift and then threaten to stop paying for your tuition. If you want to study abroad, it’s a good idea to look into scholarships or international student loans. This way, you can control your education and finances, not them.
AITA for getting mad at my parents for using the money my grandma gave me for graduation?
