Your SIL (the new one) was completely out of line, disrespectful, and disgusting for questioning your wife’s fidelity, especially over something as shallow and racist as skin tone. The nerve of a mistress who destroyed a marriage and family to then imply your wife cheated is beyond hypocritical. She humiliated your wife publicly, and you defended her as you should have.
Could you have used gentler words? Maybe. But when someone attacks your spouse and your child’s legitimacy, they lose the right to polite responses. Your brother choosing this woman and then demanding you apologize for protecting your wife is laughable. She disrespected your family first, you just gave her a well-deserved reality check.
