AITA For being angry that my husband of 8 years named his father as his life insurance beneficiary?

Not the A-hole.

You’re not wrong for feeling hurt — in fact, your feelings are completely valid. You’re his wife and the mother of his children; it’s natural to expect that his life insurance would protect you and your kids if something happened to him. Naming his father — especially one who is financially supported by him already — while leaving you and the children out entirely is deeply disrespectful and alarming.

What’s more concerning is the control he has over your finances. You don’t have access to joint accounts, he withholds cards, and now he’s making major financial decisions without consulting you. That’s not cultural respect — that’s financial control. Even if supporting his parents is part of his culture, there’s no justification for excluding his immediate family from financial security. You’re not selfish — you’re recognizing that your husband is prioritizing his family of origin over the one he built with you.
